I did my first International trip to Singapore and Bangakok in March 2025 and this post is about the trip to Singapore.
Impressions
It was an amazing 10/10 experience. It wasn't all that hot/humid at the time and I loved almost all of my time there. Everything was super clean, The public transport is excellent and there is so much greenery and care put into every thing.
Places I visited
Mandai Nature Reserve
- Singapore Zoo
This takes around 3-4 hours if you don't do any of the exhibits/shows. I watched 1 show because I was passing through when it started. This alone might take half a day or a full day if you are seeing all the shows.
- Bird Paradise
Go here before any of the other places in Mandai Reservers. By Afternoon, The heat goes up and you may not see as many birds. I spent around 3 hours here.
- River Wonders
This was the shortest one at around 2 hours.
- Mandai Boardwalk
Gardens by the bay
Flower Dome
Cloud Forest
Go around the time they are misting the place! It's extra special.
Supertree Grove & Observatory
OCBC Skyway
Serene Gardens
Garden Rhapsody
The music & light show at Supertree Grove at Night.
- The Meadows
Mueseums & Arts
Art Science Mueseum
Asian Civilization Mueseum
National Mueseum of Singapore
Nature & Parks
Fort Canning Park
National Botanic Gardens
Orchid Gardens(inside the Botanic Garden)
Macritchie Nature Trail
Miscellaneous
Marina Barrage
Merlion Park
China Town
Little India
Rain Vortex at Changi Airport
Butterfly Garden at Changi Airport
Skypark observation deck
This was not worth it and I wouldn't recommend it. There is no place to sit even at off-peak hours and it's kind of boring. :/
- Esplanade Concert Hall
What did I miss ?
- National Art Gallery: I had plans to visit this but they basically do not accept foreign bank issued credit cards or debit cards at the counter, website or the self booking machines.
- Mount Faber: A friend had suggested this place. I wanted to go there but could not make the time.
- SEA Aquarium: I have heard the highest praise of this of all the places in Sentosa Island. Going there would've wasted a lot of time so I didn't try but in future, I'd like to go there.
What should you know if you are visiting?
- Almost every thing is cashless, The only place where I could've used cash is at the National Art Gallery. I did not eat food at the Hawker centers but I have heard some of them only accept cash.
- The SG Public transport pass costs around 29 SGD and only worth it if you use it 10+ times a day or stay for the full length of the pass and use public transport
- The Rain Vortex only operates between 10 AM to 10 PM. My flight to Bangkok was in early morning and I missed it.
- I walked ~113k steps in the 4-5 days I was there. I didn't bring my good shoes because I thought they were too heavy and the shoes I did bring were terrible and caused too many problems. Make sure you wear good shoes!
Costs
- Flights: 12k INR BLR->SIN and 14k INR SIN->BKK
- Hotels: 5.5k/night, 26k INR. I wanted to stay at a hostel but decided against it last minute. In BKK, I stayed at a Hostel and had a good experience so in future visits, I'll probably stay at Hostels in SG.
- Food: ~120 SGD
- Attractions: ~160 SGD for 1 person
- Gifts: ~200 SGD. Mostly from the shops at Gardens by the way, Mueseums, Mandai reserve shops and some markets.
- Transport: ~25 SGD all of it in either SG MRT or Buses for places where I couldn't go with MRT.
- eSIM: 12 SGD on the Singtel Tourist eSIM.
